India stands as the highest milk producer in the world. This could happen due to many factors including development of organized farms, novel concepts of cooperative dairying and increased attention towards animal health management and advanced breeding practices. Although significant improvement has taken place in management of infectious diseases through routine immunization and development of new generation vaccines, relatively less attention has been paid to animal genetics. To fill this gap, geneOmbio Technologies offers dedicated genetic services to the livestock industry, incidentally becoming the first commercial company in India to undertake such activities.

Broadly, the activities are:

	Screening of cattle/buffalo population for carriers of major congenital disorders such as Bovine Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency Syndrome (BLAD), Citrullinemia, and Deficiency of Uridine Monophosphate Synthase (DUMPS) and Factor XI deficiency. Research activity for screening of more number of diseases is underway.
	Genotyping of cattle for production traits such as high milk yield as well as higher fat and protein content in the milk. Gene forms (alleles) can be selected for cow that produce milk that is better suited for cheese production. This information is useful during selection of animals prior to designing of breeding programmes.
	STR based paternity determination test using several microsatellite loci are undertaken by geneOmbio Technologies. This assists in foolproof identification of parents of calves born out of artificial insemination programme. Information related to true paternity of calves born out of AI programme is vital for the success of any field-based AI breeding programme.
